The Royal British Legion

RBL Image webAs old as the British Legion itself, Colston Bassett, Owthorpe and Cotgrave Branch has been serving the communities of Colston Bassett, Owthorpe and Cotgrave for over 90 years.

Today it is a vibrant group of over 100 members carrying out Remembrance, Representation, Comradeship and Welfare for those serving in the Armed Forces and those having served in the Armed Forces, their families and dependents.

The Branch does not have a club house but members meet in different locations to raise money and socialise. Each month (usually on the last Thursday) one activity or another is held at either the Cotgrave Welfare or a pub in the Vale of Belvoir.

Each year the Branch raises money for its Welfare Fund or for the Poppy Appeal and helpers are always welcome. The fortnight leading up to Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Sunday itself are always busy times with collections, parades, church services and an excellent lunch to finish up.

You don’t need to have served in the Forces to join the Legion, you just need to have the minimal annual membership fee and a willingness to join in the activities.

Membership application forms are available from the Chairman, John Ludlam (0115 9899094) or the Secretary Bryan Tansley (0115 9894416).
