The Parish Council has given its support to the development of a Neighbourhood Plan for our village. In 2011 central government made radical changes to planning legislation and gave powers to local communities to produce Neighbourhood Plans which are protected by law and have to be taken account of when any developments are proposed. Thousands of villages and towns throughout England have either already completed a plan or are in the process of doing so. Such documents are now an essential part of the planning process, and the plan will provide an opportunity for the village to shape the nature of future development and services which meet the real needs of the village.
A plan developed by Colston Bassett must be led by the local community, and must reflect local views and opinions. It must support Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Planning policies and also contribute to Central Government’s approach to sustainable development. It will be part of the statutory development plan for the area. This means that it will have considerable force in helping the Parish and the Borough in determining planning applications in the future. This public meeting is the start of the process and there will be further opportunities for the community to contribute their thoughts, culminating in a referendum on the plan.
Do come along and have a chat over a cup of tea, find out more, have your say, and if possible join us in this important village project.
